Back to ProjectsProject Background
The New Hampton Parks and Recreation Department sought to refresh and protect the concrete floors in the boys’ and girls’ shower rooms at their municipal pool. With years of wear from heavy foot traffic, moisture, and seasonal use, the existing surfaces were due for a durable, slip-resistant upgrade that could withstand the demands of a busy community facility.
Scope of Work
Concrete PolyFix was contracted to install high-performance concrete coatings in both shower rooms. The project included:
- Surface preparation and repair.
- Application of a base coat, broadcast of acrylic chips, and topcoat using Aspartic 85 (low odor).
- Color selection: Stony Creek, a natural, neutral blend that complements the facility’s aesthetic.
- Coverage: 858 sq. ft. total (429 sq. ft. per shower room).
Challenges
- Moisture and humidity: Working in a pool environment required careful timing and product selection to ensure proper adhesion and curing.
- Tight timeline: The project needed to be completed between pool seasons to avoid disruption to programming.
- Surface inconsistencies: Uneven areas and existing cracks required additional prep and repair to ensure a smooth, long-lasting finish.
Solutions
- Our team used moisture-tolerant materials and scheduled work during a dry window to optimize conditions.
- We coordinated closely with the Parks & Rec team to align with their calendar and minimize downtime.
- Cracks were filled and surfaces leveled before coating, ensuring a seamless and safe finish.
- The Stony Creek flake system was selected for its durability, slip resistance, and timeless look.
Results
- Both shower rooms now feature clean, slip-resistant, and easy-to-maintain floors that elevate the overall facility experience.
- The Stony Creek finish provides a polished, professional look while standing up to moisture and wear.
- The project was completed on time and within budget, with positive feedback from staff and community members.
